Aston Villa has officially announced the acquisition of midfielder Joao Gomes from Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Brazilian international has penned a five-year contract with the Lions.
The transfer is reported to be in the region of £35 million, finalized after Gomes successfully completed his medical. This signing comes as a strategic move for Villa, necessitated by the long-term injury to Amadou Onana and Youri Tielemans' departure.
Gomes, 25, brings a wealth of experience from his time at Flamengo and Wolves, where he amassed 130 appearances. His dynamic style and defensive prowess made him a standout player, even during Wolves' relegation season.
This marks Villa's second major summer signing, following the club record acquisition of Johan Manzambi. Gomes expressed his desire to play under manager Unai Emery, choosing Villa over other interested clubs.
