Community Effort Revives Asotin County Legion Baseball

The Asotin County Blues American Legion baseball program has successfully returned for the 2026 season after a one-year hiatus in 2025. A dedicated group of community members, parents, and American Legion supporters worked diligently to re-establish the team.

Their efforts included a town hall meeting that garnered strong community backing. Significant local sponsorships from businesses like the Hughes Foundation and Twin River Bank were secured, enabling a crucial reduction in player fees. This initiative ensured greater accessibility for young athletes interested in developing their skills.

The revitalized Blues team now features players from Asotin, Clarkston, and Pomeroy high schools, fostering a new level of unity. First-year coach Jace Wessels is leading the team, emphasizing player development alongside competitive play. Key players include Conrad Nelson, Parker Nugen, Blyton Holman, Nolan Newberg, and Jacob Ostermiller, who are noted for their leadership and dedication.

Leaders of the Blues program have expressed optimism about the team's current performance and its tight-knit camaraderie. They also hold ambitious goals for the future, including the potential addition of a 15U team to further engage younger players in summer baseball and ensure the program's long-term sustainability.
