Asmita Dey Makes History: India's First Judo Gold at CWG

Asmita Dey has achieved a historic milestone for Indian judo, becoming the first Indian athlete to secure a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. Competing in the women's under-48 kg category, Dey faced Canada's Heidi Quach in a closely contested final match. The intense bout went down to a golden score, where Dey executed a decisive move to claim the victory with a 2-1 scoreline.

Her journey to this point includes significant performances at national and international events. Dey's inclusion in the Sports Authority of India's National Centre of Excellence in Bhopal in 2018 followed strong showings at the National School Games and Khelo India competitions. She has since represented India in numerous tournaments, earning medals at events like the Asian Open and the Junior Asia Cup Judo Championships.
