Ashwin: Dube Not a Finisher, Wrong Role!
23 Apr
Summary
- Ashwin advises CSK against using Dube as a primary death-overs finisher.
- Dube is better suited for a middle-order enforcer role, says Ashwin.
- Ashwin suggests strategic lineup changes for CSK's batting order.

Former India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has strongly advised the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) management against deploying Shivam Dube as their main death-overs finisher. Ashwin highlighted that Dube, a ₹12 crore asset, is better suited for a middle-order enforcer position rather than batting in the final overs of a match. Dube has accumulated 123 runs across six matches this season, averaging 41.00 with a strike rate of 150.00.
Ashwin clarified on his YouTube channel that while Dube possesses significant potential, he currently lacks the experience for consistent high-pressure finishing roles. He suggested that CSK should use Dube and Dewald Brevis earlier in the innings, criticizing the team's strategy of holding back their spin-hitters during a chase against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where Dube struggled to guide the team to victory.
Following an injury to Ayush Mhatre, Ashwin also proposed further tactical adjustments. These include potentially inserting Urvil Patel or MS Dhoni into the lineup and reconsidering the overseas pace combination based on pitch conditions at Wankhede Stadium. He also suggested Spencer Johnson might replace Matthew Short to optimize the bowling attack.
