Arshad Nadeem Battles Weather Woes for Javelin Gold
28 Jul
Summary
- Arshad Nadeem faced challenging weather in Switzerland, impacting his preparation.
- He is now adapting to Glasgow's conditions for the javelin qualification.
- Pakistan's medal hopes rest on Arshad's performance in the upcoming event.

Defending Commonwealth Games champion Arshad Nadeem is reportedly ready for the men's javelin throw qualification round, according to his coach Salman Butt. Nadeem experienced a challenging preparation period in Switzerland due to persistent rain, which affected his ability to adjust to the conditions. This led to a performance of 78.47 metres at the Lucerne Silver Meet, a mark below his usual standards.
Having arrived in Glasgow, Nadeem is now adapting to the weather conditions similar to those he will face during the qualification event on July 30. Coach Butt expressed confidence that Nadeem is determined to perform well, aiming to regain his top form. He will compete alongside fellow Pakistani Muhammad Yasir, while India's strong contingent includes Neeraj Chopra.
The qualification round will feature twenty athletes, with the top twelve advancing to the final. The automatic qualification standard is set at 83 metres. This event is highly anticipated due to the potential rivalry between Arshad Nadeem and Neeraj Chopra, who missed the previous Commonwealth Games. Pakistan is still seeking its first medal of the current Games.
