Arsenal Trio Makes Spain's World Cup Squad
25 May
Summary
- David Raya, Martin Zubimendi, and Mikel Merino selected for Spain's World Cup.
- Mikel Merino returns from injury to secure a spot on the squad.
- Kepa Arrizabalaga and Cristhian Mosquera did not make the final list.
Spain's 2026 World Cup squad announcement has seen three Arsenal internationals make the cut: David Raya, Martin Zubimendi, and Mikel Merino. Merino's inclusion is a significant boost, especially considering his recent return to the pitch after a prolonged period sidelined by injury.
Raya and Zubimendi were expected selections, having been consistent performers for Arsenal throughout their title-winning season and regular starters for Spain. Their fitness and availability have been key factors.
However, the squad selection also brought disappointment for other Arsenal players. Kepa Arrizabalaga, once Spain's primary goalkeeper, has fallen out of contention for national team call-ups. Cristhian Mosquera, who debuted for Spain in March, also did not secure a place on the World Cup roster.
