Premier League champions Arsenal FC have provided an unexpected form of support to donkeys at Redwings Horse Sanctuary. The club donated around 40 pairs of their football socks to the sanctuary, located in Caldecott, Norfolk. These socks are proving invaluable for the donkeys' well-being during the summer.
Sanctuary staff explained that the socks help shield the donkeys' legs from flies, which can cause painful scabs and infections in warmer months. Beyond protection from insects, the football socks are also being utilized by veterinarians to secure bandages and to manage hair on the donkeys' legs during hoof trimming.
While the club initiated the donation independently, a sanctuary representative speculated that footballer Kai Havertz might have influenced this unique gesture, given his past involvement in rescuing donkeys. The donation ensures the donkeys receive excellent care.
