Randy Arozarena has issued an apology to his Seattle Mariners teammate Cal Raleigh after a public confrontation during the World Baseball Classic. Arozarena released a statement Saturday, expressing regret for his profane outburst directed at Raleigh. He acknowledged the timing, with Opening Day imminent, and stated his desire to avoid distraction for the team.
Arozarena and Raleigh, who are teammates in Seattle, found themselves on opposing sides during a March 9 WBC game between Mexico and the USA. Following a perceived slight from Raleigh, Arozarena engaged in a heated rant.
Raleigh, however, has worked to de-escalate the situation. He previously stated that he and Arozarena had spoken and that there was "no beef" between them. Reaffirming his position on Saturday, Raleigh indicated that the WBC incident is firmly in the past.
Both players have since reconciled, with Arozarena apologizing and Raleigh accepting. Mariners manager Dan Wilson expressed no surprise at Arozarena's apology, highlighting the strong camaraderie within the Seattle clubhouse. The team is set to begin its season on Thursday at home against the Cleveland Guardians.
