Arizona State Quarterback Sidelined for Rematch with Iowa State

The rematch of last season's Big 12 championship game between the Arizona State Sun Devils and Iowa State Cyclones is set to take place on Saturday, November 4th, 2025. However, the Sun Devils will be without their starting quarterback Sam Leavitt, who is sidelined due to a right foot injury.

Leavitt, who passed for 1,628 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions this season, will be replaced by sixth-year player Jeff Sims. Sims has 32 touchdowns and 29 interceptions in his career, which began with three seasons at Georgia Tech and one at Nebraska before joining the Sun Devils.

Both teams have been struggling in the conference race lately. Defending champion Arizona State has lost two of its last three games and stands in a four-way tie for fifth place in the Big 12. Meanwhile, Iowa State has dropped three straight and is tied for ninth in the standings.

Despite the recent setbacks, Iowa State coach Matt Campbell views Sims as a dangerous threat, saying, "When you see a guy like Jeff that's played a lot of really good football, it's a unique challenge."
