Appalachian State's football team will face East Carolina University on Saturday, September 12, at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. This contest follows Appalachian State's dominant 55-3 victory over the University of Maine in their season opener.
The Mountaineers have a strong historical advantage, leading the series against the Pirates with a 22-12 record over 34 games since 1932. Appalachian State has won the last three matchups, including a 21-19 victory in Greenville in 2024.
Head coach Dowell Loggains emphasized the team's focus on moving past their week one win, stating that all corrections are being made even after a decisive victory. In the opener, senior quarterback Malachi Singleton delivered a stellar performance, completing 291 passing yards with three touchdowns, while receiver Sam Pickett III caught five passes for 76 yards and two scores.
The Mountaineer defense, led by senior linebacker Colton Phares, held the University of Maine to just three points and forced two turnovers. Meanwhile, ECU's defense conceded 260 passing yards in a 48-10 loss to the University of Alabama. Running back Ashton Gray has been recognized on the preseason watchlist for the Doak Walker Award.
Coach Loggains expressed excitement for the road game, acknowledging the challenge of playing in a hostile environment against a rival. He stressed the importance of proving road-game capability and securing this significant instate rivalry win.
Kickoff is scheduled for noon, with the game broadcast on ESPNU.
