Jack Doohan's Formula 1 journey with Alpine has concluded, as the team confirmed a mutual agreement to end his driving services for the 2026 season. Doohan, who joined Alpine's academy in 2022 and secured a 2025 race seat, was released after only six races in the 2025 season following early crashes. His spot was subsequently taken by Franco Colapinto, who has retained his position for the upcoming campaign despite failing to score points.
Following his release, Doohan is anticipated to explore career opportunities in the Japanese single-seater championship, Super Formula. However, this move has not yet been officially confirmed. Doohan's time with Alpine saw him become the first Academy member to reach a race seat, debuting at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The team has appointed Paul Aron as their reserve driver, serving as the next in line should Franco Colapinto's performance not improve. The 2026 F1 season is set to commence on March 8 with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, while Alpine is scheduled to launch their 2026 car on January 23 in Barcelona.
