Pitcher Alex Santos Earns Triple-A Call-Up

Alex Santos, a pitcher selected by the Houston Astros in the 2020 second round, has achieved a career milestone with his promotion to Triple-A Sugar Land. This move signifies his first opportunity to play at the highest minor league level with the Space Cowboys.

Santos's recent performance in Double-A Corpus Christi was exceptional, showcasing his potential. He recorded a 4-2 win-loss record with a 3.38 earned run average over 39 games. His adaptation to a full-time relief role proved successful, as he struck out 82 batters while walking only 33 in 53.1 innings.

His path to this advancement was not without adversity. Santos endured significant setbacks due to injuries in the 2024 and 2025 seasons, which impacted his playing time and development. During these two years, he participated in only 16 games and pitched 52.1 innings.

Despite these challenges, Santos demonstrated resilience. He returned to form in 2025, achieving his best opponent batting average since his initial professional season in 2021. This promotion positions him as a pitcher on the verge of potentially reaching the major leagues.
