Honnold Scales Taipei 101 in Record Free Solo

Alex Honnold has successfully completed a free solo ascent of Taiwan's Taipei 101, achieving a personal milestone and setting a world record for the tallest urban free solo climb. The climb, broadcast live by Netflix, was a multi-stage challenge including the Slabs, Bamboo Boxes, and the Tower itself, culminating at the building's sphere. Honnold navigated obstacles such as unique building protrusions and notable wind conditions, maintaining composure throughout the ascent.

The Skyscraper Live event, hosted by Elle Duncan and featuring guests like Seth Rollins and Mark Rober, experienced some minor delays and broadcast interference. Pre-taped segments and a 10-second delay were incorporated for safety and production value. Honnold's wife, Sanni McCandless, was present and relieved upon his successful descent, which involved a harness and rappelling.

This remarkable climb follows Honnold's previous historic free solo of El Capitan's full route, documented in the award-winning "Free Solo." The Taipei 101 ascent highlights his continued dedication to pushing the boundaries of free solo climbing, a discipline he emphasizes is made safe through extensive preparation and training.
