Carlos Alcaraz faced criticism from tennis fans following his surprising exit from the Shanghai Masters. The Spaniard's campaign concluded in the round of 32 after a defeat to Zizou Bergs. Alcaraz expressed dissatisfaction with the match balls, suggesting they differed from those used earlier, and noted inconsistent bounces that affected his play.
Social media platforms buzzed with reactions, with many fans dismissing Alcaraz's comments as mere excuses. They argued that the conditions were uniform for both competitors and that Alcaraz should handle losses more gracefully. Some fans even urged him not to emulate other players who frequently complain after defeats.
Alcaraz himself acknowledged that he did not perform at his best during the match against Bergs. While praising his opponent's level, he admitted to faltering in crucial moments. The defeat marked an early end to his Shanghai Masters run, with his next scheduled tournament being the Six Kings Slam in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from October 21-24.
