Albon: Williams Playing Catch-Up After Missing Key F1 Prep
20 Feb
Summary
- Albon believes missing Barcelona shakedown put Williams behind rivals.
- Williams targets a repeat of their fifth-place constructors' finish.
- Albon is passionate about bringing an F1 Grand Prix to Thailand.
Williams Racing driver Alexander Albon has voiced concerns that missing the shakedown event in Barcelona has placed the team on the back foot as Formula One adapts to significant regulation changes for the new season. The team's absence from this crucial preparatory session, choosing simulator work instead, has resulted in valuable learning time being lost.
Despite the initial disadvantage, Albon highlighted the team's substantial progress during recent testing in Bahrain. Williams is aiming to replicate its fifth-place constructors' standings finish from the prior season. Albon shares this ambition, hoping to close the gap to top teams and pull away from the midfield.
Born in London, Albon races under the Thai flag and feels a deep connection to Thai culture. He recently announced his engagement to Lily He. Albon's personal goals include advocating for a Formula One Grand Prix to be hosted in Thailand, which he believes could establish the country as a significant motorsport center in Southeast Asia.
