From 2001 hit to 700 HRs: Pujols' epic journey

The anniversary of Albert Pujols' first career hit on April 2, 2001, marks the genesis of a baseball legend. Stepping into the batter's box as a rookie for the St. Louis Cardinals, Pujols initiated a career characterized by unparalleled dominance, consistency, and longevity. His initial hit in Denver against the Colorado Rockies was a precursor to an extraordinary trajectory.

Pujols' tenure with the Cardinals from 2001 to 2011 was a period of remarkable team and individual success. During these years, the Cardinals became perennial contenders, achieving seven postseason appearances, multiple National League pennants, and World Series championships in 2006 and 2011. Pujols was the central figure in this era of dominance, delivering MVP-caliber performances and clutch moments.

After the 2011 season, Pujols embarked on a new chapter, signing with the Los Angeles Angels. While he continued to reach significant milestones, including 500 and 600 home runs and 3,000 hits, his production saw a gradual decline due to age and injuries. Despite this, his career was further defined by remarkable longevity, allowing him to climb all-time leaderboards.

In 2022, Pujols returned to the Cardinals for his final season, providing a full-circle moment for his career. This farewell tour was capped by a remarkable surge late in the season, culminating in him reaching the historic 700 career home run mark. This final chapter cemented his legacy among baseball's all-time greats, tracing back to that singular hit in 2001.
