Alabama & Georgia Skip Top 25 Transfer Rankings
4 Feb
Summary
- Alabama and Georgia are absent from this year's top transfer portal rankings.
- Both teams prioritize developing younger talent over immediate transfer impact.
- Georgia focused on retaining its core players, especially on defense.

College football titans Alabama and Georgia are conspicuously missing from the latest top 25 transfer portal rankings, a surprising development given the portal's increasing influence on elite teams. Last year, 10 of the 12 College Football Playoff participants were ranked in the top 25 of transfer portal classes.
Alabama's Kalen DeBoer acknowledged the team is younger this year, with 22 scholarship players lost and 17 added, many being younger prospects. This follows significant roster turnover in previous years. DeBoer emphasized developing young talent, including a promising group of sophomores and recruits, to build an edge.
Conversely, Georgia's Kirby Smart focused on retention, successfully keeping the nucleus of its team, particularly on defense. While not heavily active in the portal, Georgia made targeted additions at receiver, running back, and defensive back, aiming to develop emergent stars and maintain depth.
