10 Oct
Summary
- Kiah Stokes effectively defended A'ja Wilson, limiting her scoring.
- Wilson's MVP season concluded with the Las Vegas Aces' semifinal sweep.
- Wilson secured her fifth MVP award despite the team's playoff exit.
A'ja Wilson's record-breaking fifth MVP award could not prevent the Las Vegas Aces from being swept in the WNBA semifinals. The Aces' playoff exit means they will not defend their 2025 title. A significant factor in the team's downfall was the defensive performance of Golden State Valkyries center Kiah Stokes, who made it difficult for Wilson throughout the game.
Stokes restricted Wilson to 21 points on 31.6% shooting, her lowest marks of the postseason. This defensive effort earned Stokes widespread praise. She also contributed offensively with 11 points and 10 rebounds in her team's overtime victory. Despite the team's disappointing end, Wilson's individual season was still remarkable, averaging 26.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, and significant defensive stats, which secured her fifth MVP trophy.
