Oklahoma Sooners standout Aaliyah Chavez did not secure the Freshman of the Year award, despite a remarkable season. She led the team in scoring with 18.4 points per game, alongside 3.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.5 steals. Chavez also achieved All-SEC Second Team and All-Freshman team recognition, along with eight Freshman of the Week awards, tying an SEC record. However, Vanderbilt's Aubrey Galvan was named Freshman of the Year, despite not making the All-SEC First or Second Teams.
Head coach Baranczyk noted that Chavez, who helped the Sooners finish the regular season 23-6 overall and 11-5 in conference play, remained focused and unfazed by the decision. The coach emphasized Chavez's winning mentality and her commitment to team success over individual honors. The Sooners, currently ranked No. 4 nationally in scoring offense, enter the SEC Tournament as the 5-seed and are positioned for a 3-seed in the NCAA Tournament.
