Since then, Newton has achieved significant milestones, completing 31 marathons. Among these are 21 London Marathons, showcasing his enduring commitment to the sport. During lockdown, he even ran 461 laps around his garden to maintain his training regimen.
Newton's personal best of three hours, 52 minutes, and 30 seconds was achieved at age 70. Despite anticipating a slower pace this year, he recently completed the Morecambe Marathon in under six hours, qualifying for the over-85 category.
His advice for novice runners is to maintain a steady pace and ensure physical readiness. Newton's wife, Phyllis, has been a steadfast supporter throughout his running endeavors, and he will be cheered on by approximately 20 family members at the upcoming event.
