60-Year-Old Skater Reclaims Youth with Slalom

Darren Miles, a dedicated skateboarder for most of his life, will represent Great Britain at the World Skate Games in Paraguay this October. Now 60, Miles decided to pivot his lifelong passion towards slalom skateboarding in his late 50s when he noticed a decline in his skills and flexibility. This demanding sport involves navigating a course of cones at speed, requiring new physical techniques and constant judgment.

Miles discovered that slalom offers a unique way to prolong a skateboarding career, a concept he finds amazing given enough time and commitment. He has trained across Europe, including in France, Germany, and Czechia, and has found that the competitive aspect of racing fosters close friendships. He recently completed his World Anti-Doping Agency training, affirming his status as an international athlete and finding personal justification in his dedication to this new pursuit.
