The 2027 Major League Soccer sprint season will commence on February 19th with a unique opening match. This sprint season is a one-time adjustment to the league's schedule before MLS transitions to its new summer-to-spring format.
The tournament is designed to feature 14 intra-conference matches. It will start in February and conclude with the MLS Cup playoffs in May. Each team will play seven home and seven away games against opponents within their own conference. The top eight teams from each conference will qualify for the single-elimination playoff bracket.
Ultimately, the sprint season will crown an MLS Cup champion in May. Additionally, performance in this season will determine qualification for the 2028 Concacaf Champions Cup and the 2028 Leagues Cup. The full calendar for the 2027 sprint season is scheduled for announcement on October 29th. The subsequent 2027-28 MLS season will begin in July 2027, leading to a title game in May 2028.
