The upcoming 2027 Cricket World Cup is generating unprecedented global enthusiasm, evidenced by over 1.5 crore ticket applications submitted from 142 nations within the first 12 days of the ballot. This massive interest underscores the tournament's widespread appeal.
Scheduled to take place from October 2 to November 21, 2027, the event will be hosted across South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Fans have until November 21, 2026, to register their interest in the ticket ballot, with successful applicants being notified via email.
A significant innovation for the 2027 edition is the introduction of a new three-stage format. This revamped structure begins with a 'Super Series' involving the three lowest-ranked qualified teams competing in a round-robin stage.
The winner of the 'Super Series' will proceed to join the other 11 qualified nations in the second phase. Here, teams will be divided into two groups of six, playing 30 matches in total.
Ultimately, the top three teams from each group, plus the next best-performing team, will advance to the newly established 'Super 7' stage, determining the World Cup champion. Australia are the reigning champions, having secured their sixth title in the 2023 tournament.
