The 2027 Cricket World Cup, set to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia from October 2 to November 21, has revealed its group pairings and a radically new format.
India and Pakistan are drawn together in Group A, alongside Afghanistan, Australia, Zimbabwe, and a Qualifier A. Group B comprises Bangladesh, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and Qualifier B. India's opening match is against Australia on October 7 in Cape Town, followed by a highly anticipated clash with Pakistan on October 10 in Johannesburg. The schedule allows for up to three encounters between the arch-rivals if they advance.
This edition will be the largest to date, featuring 14 teams. The tournament begins with a 'Super Series' involving teams from the ICC World Qualifier. Subsequently, 12 teams, including the top eight by ODI rankings as of September 30, 2026, co-hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe, and the winners of the Qualifier and Super Series, will compete in a round-robin format across Group A and Group B. The top three from each group, plus the fourth-best, will progress to the Super 7 stage, culminating in semi-finals and the final on November 21.
