The preliminary qualification round has concluded, and the draw for the qualifiers is scheduled for May 19, 2026.
A total of 48 teams, including the three co-hosts, will compete in the qualifiers, which will be played across three FIFA International Windows. The groups will consist of 12 groups of four teams, with the top two from each group advancing to the final tournament.
The 2027 AFCON also signifies the return of the tournament to East Africa for the first time since Ethiopia hosted in 1976. CAF aims to build on the commercial success and growing global appeal demonstrated in recent tournaments.
