The 2026 NFL season has reached its quarter mark, prompting a review of early award contenders. Several rookies are making their mark, with linebackers Anthony Hill Jr. and Dillon Thieneman playing nearly every defensive snap for their teams.
In an unexpected development, undrafted free agent Kahlil Benson has stepped up impressively at left tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs, showcasing strong performance in both run and pass blocking.
At the forefront of MVP discussions is Brock Purdy, who has delivered an exceptional start to the season. His elite statistical performance, including high Total QBR and EPA per dropback, places him in a class of his own among quarterbacks through the first four games.
Other notable early performers include Hezekiah Masses, a cornerback for the Raiders, and Arriel Reese, a linebacker/edge rusher for the Giants, who are making significant impacts on their respective defenses.
