The upcoming 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Games are set to showcase a significant technological leap, offering unparalleled experiences for spectators. Managing Director Yiannis Exarchos highlighted that much of this technology will be making its debut at the Games.
Among the innovations are first-person view (FPV) drones, which will transmit real-time footage from onboard cameras to deliver dynamic perspectives of the races. This event will also be the first to feature 360-degree real-time replay, a collaboration with Alibaba that utilizes multi-camera systems for multi-angle views and slow-motion replays.
Further technological enhancements include a new tracking system for curling stones, providing real-time data on their path, speed, and rotation. Viewers will benefit from enhanced game understanding through suspended rail cameras, ice-level views, and detailed graphics. Olympic GPT, an AI chatbot, will be available to answer questions about results, regulations, and ongoing competitions.
