Summary
- A village in Kent features a vast scale model of the solar system.
- The model aims to help visitors understand the immense scale of space.
- Planets are placed precisely to scale across the village and woodlands.

A village in Kent is home to a remarkable feat of astronomical visualization: what is thought to be the world's largest scale model of the solar system. Located in Otford, near Sevenoaks, this ambitious project spreads representations of the Sun and planets across the local parish and into adjacent woodlands.
The model's co-chair, Simon Featherstone of the Otford Society, stated the project's aim is to allow visitors to "visualise the sheer vastness of our solar system." Each celestial body is marked with a representation, with the Sun positioned at the center on the recreation ground.
To accurately reflect astronomical distances, the model employs a precise scale. This is exemplified by Pluto, which is located approximately one mile away from the Sun's marker, offering a tangible sense of cosmic scale to those who explore it.
