UP Tackles Infections with Microbiome Tech
23 Oct
Summary
- UP govt plans microbiome tech for hospital infections.
- Technology to improve wastewater treatment and crop quality.
- Pilot projects proposed at selected institutions across UP.
The Uttar Pradesh government has drafted a comprehensive state-specific plan to harness microbiome technology. This innovative approach will be applied across critical sectors including healthcare, environmental protection, sanitation, food safety, and sustainable agriculture.
The initiative focuses on monitoring hospital-acquired infections and antimicrobial resistance through advanced techniques like DNA sequencing. Pilot projects are planned for government and selected private hospitals to strengthen surveillance efforts.
For environmental applications, the plan includes treatment-based pilot projects along the Ganga, Yamuna, and Gomti river catchments. These projects will assess microbial communities in wastewater treatment plants and explore biological treatment enhancements.
The draft, titled 'Uttar Pradesh State Specific Note on Microbiome Technologies,' will be submitted to the chief minister for approval. The rollout is planned in phases over 24 months, with key roles for the Biotechnology Park in Lucknow and the UPPPC.
