In late 2021, with their mother's early-onset dementia preventing her from answering questions, Michelle decided to take a DNA test. The results, received on February 14, 2022—the same day their mother died—revealed James was not her father. Further investigation identified Alex as Michelle's biological father.
Lavinia also undertook a DNA test due to lingering unease. Her results confirmed she and Michelle were half-sisters, a truth that initially devastated her.
