Saturn Joins Moon in Rare Celestial Dance Tonight!
24 Jan
Summary
- Saturn and the moon will appear close in the night sky on January 23.
- This conjunction is a rare opportunity to view two celestial bodies together.
- Cloudy weather may impact visibility across the United States.

Skygazers have a unique opportunity to witness Saturn appear alongside the moon in the night sky on Friday, January 23. This astronomical event, known as a conjunction, occurs when celestial bodies appear close together from Earth's perspective, despite being millions of miles apart.
The moon will be in a waxing crescent phase, appearing as a silver sliver, approximately 23% illuminated. This celestial rendezvous follows other January skywatching events, including the visibility of the beehive cluster.
However, the spectacular view may be hampered by forecasted cloud cover across much of the United States. Stargazers in the Northern Hemisphere can find Saturn by looking west, situated just below the moon.
While telescopes can enhance the view and potentially reveal Saturn's rings, no special equipment is required to observe this conjunction in the pre-dawn sky.
