Summary
- A beautifully constructed Roman limestone wall was unearthed.
- Over 1,200 school children visited the significant archaeological site.
- Hundreds of artifacts including brooches and coins were discovered.

A remarkably well-preserved Roman limestone wall, described as "significantly beautiful," has been uncovered at a significant archaeological site by Chester House, Irchester. Excavations over several weeks by teams from the University of Leicester and other archaeological services revealed the wall's foundations and construction, providing new insights into the Roman town's defenses and appearance.
This discovery offers a vivid sense of how the town might have looked, potentially visible across the Nene Valley. Alongside the wall, hundreds of artifacts were found, including brooches, pottery, coins, and personal items like a comb and spoon. These finds indicate the acquisition of high-status goods during the early Roman period.
The excavation involved numerous experts and volunteers, and was visited by approximately 1,200 schoolchildren. The site was a densely settled and busy landscape during Roman times. All findings have been documented, and the artifacts will be studied at Chester House. Future events, including Roman Fest and archaeology experience days, are planned for July and August.
