A New York State Police spokesperson indicated the site is likely the historical Murders Creek (now Moodna Creek) burial ground, with burials believed to have occurred in the mid to late 1700s. Town historian Glenn Marshall is particularly interested, as he believes the find could belong to a family who went missing over 200 years ago.
Marshall has been searching for a specific family of seven, and he stated that this discovery confirms his research. He hopes further studies, potentially by local universities after the ground thaws, will help confirm the identity of the remains and possibly uncover more graves.
