Neuroscience Breakthrough: Bridging Brain Barriers for Better Drugs
26 Sep
Summary
- Collaboration sought for advanced targeted drug delivery systems.
- Blood-brain barrier poses a significant challenge for therapeutics.
- AI and ML aid in understanding brain data for new treatments.

Vice-Chancellor P. Prakash Babu of Pondicherry University has called for enhanced collaboration among diverse scientific fields to create advanced targeted drug delivery systems. This call came during the 40th annual meeting of the Society for Neurochemistry India, held at the university.
The primary obstacle in delivering therapeutics to the central nervous system is the blood-brain barrier. Modern neuroscience research generates extensive data from various sources, including genomics and brain imaging.
To translate this data into effective therapeutic strategies, researchers are increasingly leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. These technologies assist in identifying complex patterns, discovering biomarkers, predicting disease progression, and pinpointing potential therapeutic targets.
The conference, themed "Integrative Neurochemistry: Neuroinformatics and Therapeutics," organized by the School of Life Sciences, is a three-day event concluding on Saturday.
