In Bhanauli village, Amethi district, Uttar Pradesh, a surprising discovery was made during routine excavation work for a house foundation. Twenty-nine large metal spheres were unearthed, causing immediate concern among the local villagers. These objects, described as having a greenish appearance and fuse holes, have piqued the interest of archaeological experts.
An Assistant Archaeological Officer from the UP Archaeology Department examined the spheres and stated they were made of copper. Preliminary assessments suggest these items may have served as ammunition in a historical context. Each sphere measures approximately 60 cm in diameter, stands about 20 cm high, and weighs between 9-10 kg.
While the initial findings point towards ammunition, the exact age, origin, and historical period of these 29 copper spheres remain undetermined. Further investigation will focus on their material, construction, dimensions, and fuse-hole design to establish their provenance. This unique find presents a significant archaeological question regarding their burial and past use.
