Roscosmos and NASA are currently engaged in discussions to determine how the International Space Station (ISS) will be deorbited following its extended operational period. The station's mission has been officially prolonged until 2030.
According to Roscosmos CEO Dmitry Bakanov, the two space agencies are negotiating the specific responsibilities each country will undertake for the ISS's deorbit. He indicated that there is ample time for these negotiations, estimating about eighteen months remaining to finalize these arrangements.
Bakanov also mentioned that a face-to-face meeting with the NASA administrator has not yet been scheduled. The agencies have previously agreed to extend the ISS operation until 2030 and commit to exchanging technical information about their respective orbital stations even after the ISS is decommissioned.
