3D Hearts Headed to ISS for Microgravity Study
8 Oct
Summary
- A SpaceX Cargo Dragon is set to launch to the ISS soon.
- The mission will deliver over 2.8 tons of scientific cargo.
- It includes materials to study 3D heart tissue in microgravity.
The United States' Cargo Dragon spacecraft is preparing for its 35th commercial resupply mission to the International Space Station (ISS). The launch is targeted for no earlier than October 13, departing from Cape Canaveral, Florida.
This mission will deliver more than 2.8 tons of essential cargo. A significant portion of this delivery includes specialized materials for groundbreaking research into the effects of microgravity on three-dimensional heart tissue models. Scientists aim to understand how space conditions impact heart tissue growth and function.
The Cargo Dragon is anticipated to return to Earth by mid-November. Among the items it will bring back are components of the Canadarm2 robotic arm, specifically a malfunctioning wrist joint slated for analysis and subsequent repair.
