On April 12, India's Department of Posts released commemorative postage stamps and souvenir sheets celebrating ISRO's progress in human spaceflight. These releases visually trace India's space journey from early successes like Aryabhata to its ambitious future endeavors. The stamps highlight major achievements, including Chandrayaan-3, and the upcoming Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission, symbolizing India's advancing technological prowess.
One souvenir sheet features the Gaganyaan crew module and aspirations for the Bharatiya Antariksha Station, planned for completion by 2035 with its first module launching in 2028. Another sheet honors Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, the first Indian to reach the International Space Station, connecting ancient astronomical heritage with modern space technology.
ISRO Chairman Dr. V. Narayanan emphasized safety for Gaganyaan astronauts and highlighted ISRO's evolving launch vehicle capabilities, with the LVM-3 currently carrying 10,000 kg payloads and future vehicles targeting 30,000 kg and 80,000 kg capacities. He confirmed that Gaganyaan will proceed with uncrewed missions before the crewed flight, prioritizing astronaut safety above all.
