Summary
- India's first hydrogen train to operate on the 90-km Jind-Sonipat route.
- The train emits zero CO2, releasing only water vapour and steam.
- Haryana to see major rail, highway, and healthcare project launches.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to launch India's first hydrogen-powered train on July 17 from Jind, Haryana. This historic event signifies a major transition for Indian Railways towards sustainable, low-emission transport alternatives.
The indigenously developed train will run on the 90-kilometer Jind-Sonipat broad gauge corridor. It features a hybrid propulsion system combining hydrogen fuel cells with lithium-ion batteries, producing zero carbon dioxide emissions and releasing only water vapour and steam. The 10-coach trainset has a combined output of 2,400 kW and will initially operate at speeds up to 75 kmph.
A dedicated hydrogen production and refuelling facility, costing approximately Rs 120 crore, has been established at Jind junction. This facility includes underground storage for 3,000 kilograms of hydrogen and utilizes rainwater harvesting systems.
The Prime Minister's visit will also include the inauguration and foundation-stone laying for numerous infrastructure projects in Haryana. These include an elevated railway track at Kurukshetra, the Ambala-Kala Amb Greenfield four-lane corridor, the Haryana section of the Delhi-Katra Expressway, and the upgraded Jind-Gohana National Highway (NH-352A). Additionally, two new medical colleges in Bhiwani and Narnaul, and a Sikh Museum in Kurukshetra are planned.
