This canine prodigy is currently assisting research conducted by the University of Portsmouth and the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena in Germany. The study aims to understand the cognitive traits, such as curiosity, that enable such advanced "label-learning" capabilities.

Dr. Juliane Kaminski's research indicates that these unique cognitive skills are critical for dogs like Harvey. His owner, Irene Hewlett, often plays extensive fetching games with him, noting that such activities provide a necessary "job" for working breeds like border collies. This engagement not only keeps the dogs mentally stimulated but also prevents them from developing undesirable behaviors.
