The ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) recently celebrated its 79th Foundation Day. To commemorate nearly eight decades of marine science research, the institute hosted an 'Open House' at its Mandapam Regional Centre. This event successfully attracted over 3,000 students from nearby districts and approximately 250 members of the general public.
The 'Open House' provided an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at CMFRI's high-level marine research. Key facilities, including the Marine Biodiversity Museum, Marine Research Aquarium, and a seaweed plantlet production unit, were opened to visitors. Scientists engaged attendees by explaining the marine ecosystem, diverse marine life, and ongoing research activities.
An interactive 'Students-Scientists Interaction meeting' was also organized. This session focused on raising awareness among students about the significance of marine ecosystems and resources, emphasizing conservation and sustainable utilization. Additionally, career guidance was offered to about 350 students from local schools.
