China's First Smart Ship Harvests Salmon Bounty
12 May
Summary
- First harvest of premium salmon from a massive smart ship.
- Vessel uses mobile tank farming, avoiding ocean threats.
- This breakthrough enables high-quality deep-sea fisheries in China.

China has achieved a milestone in deep-sea fisheries with the successful first harvest from a giant smart aquaculture ship. The vessel, named "Conson No 1 2-2," yielded approximately 3,000 Atlantic salmon, weighing a total of 12 tons, on Monday. This event signifies a major step in the country's strategy to enhance its high-quality marine farming sector.
This intelligent vessel employs a novel "ship-based aquaculture tank farming" model. It features 15 large tanks capable of holding nearly 100,000 cubic meters of seawater. This technology facilitates the world's first large-scale commercial production of salmonids aboard a mobile aquaculture platform, as confirmed by Qingdao Conson Development Group.
The "Conson No 1 2-2" is engineered for year-round cultivation trials of Atlantic salmon and other premium trout species. Its unique "mobile farming" system allows it to navigate China's coast, maintaining ideal temperatures for the fish. This strategy also provides crucial protection against environmental risks like typhoons and red tides, ensuring consistent production quality.
