CBD Calms Aggressive Dogs, Study Finds

A recent study from Arizona State University indicates that CBD products may offer a new approach to managing aggression in dogs. Analyzing data from almost 50,000 dog owners, researchers found that dogs receiving regular CBD supplements, typically older canines with existing health conditions, showed a decrease in aggressive behaviors over time. This suggests cannabidiol could provide therapeutic benefits for dogs, similar to its known effects in humans for pain and anxiety relief.

The findings, which emerged from the Dog Aging Project, highlight a specific reduction in aggression intensity among dogs treated with CBD for multiple years. While other behaviors like anxiety remained unchanged, this targeted effect on aggression is noteworthy. The study observed this behavioral shift over several years, pointing to CBD's potential as a calming agent for specific canine behavioral issues.

Despite the promising results, researchers emphasize the need for further investigation into CBD's mechanisms and long-term efficacy in dogs. They also caution pet owners about potential side effects and the importance of selecting reputable brands and proper dosage. The study noted that dogs receiving CBD were more likely to be older, have health issues like dementia or osteoarthritis, and were more prevalent in states with legal medical cannabis, suggesting owner attitudes may influence usage.
