Summary
- Astronomer Avi Loeb leads a new scientific council on UAPs.
- The team will analyze declassified government data on anomalous phenomena.
- Loeb aims to determine if UAPs are extraterrestrial or advanced tech.

Harvard astronomer Avi Loeb is spearheading a newly formed scientific council tasked with analyzing Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP). This initiative, initiated in early June, involves over a dozen scientists examining declassified government data, including videos and images of UAPs captured by the U.S. military. Loeb's objective is to determine whether these phenomena originate from other nations or from non-human sources.
Loeb expressed that the government's engagement indicates their "bafflement" regarding UAP sightings. The council will report to a UAP Governing Board under the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. While initially restricted to declassified materials, Loeb has requested additional documents, though national security concerns regarding sensor technology have posed obstacles.
The research aims to enhance national security by identifying potential threats, whether advanced drones or non-human craft. Loeb noted that while many UAPs may prove to be mundane, such as space junk, the possibility of an extraterrestrial presence is a "biggest discovery ever made by science." The White House has emphasized transparency, leading to the release of UAP materials by the Department of War.
