Summary
- Asteroid 2026 JH2 safely passes Earth on May 18.
- The space rock will be 56,628 miles from Earth's surface.
- Its size is estimated to be between 15 to 35 meters wide.

On May 18, 2026, asteroid 2026 JH2 will conduct a close yet safe flyby of Earth. Its closest approach is scheduled for 2123 GMT, passing approximately 56,628 miles from our planet's surface. This celestial event will be observable via a livestream.
Astronomers estimate the asteroid's width to be between 15 and 35 meters, roughly the size of an adult blue whale. Classified as an Apollo-type asteroid by the European Space Agency, its orbit crosses Earth's path.
Discovered only eight days prior, on May 10, by the Mount Lemmon Survey in Arizona, 2026 JH2 poses no risk of impact. NASA indicates that asteroids smaller than 25 meters generally disintegrate upon atmospheric entry.
