Archaeologists in Egypt have unearthed several rock-cut tombs at the Tell el-Yahudiya site, dating from the late New Kingdom through the Late Period. These burials are significant as rock-cut tombs are unusual in the Nile Delta, where clay soil is prevalent. Two distinct architectural styles for the tombs were identified.
Above these ancient burials, excavators discovered remains of a Roman camp. This layering demonstrates that the Tell el-Yahudiya site served various purposes across different historical eras, having previously hosted a large Hyksos-period camp and later being used in Greek and Roman times. The ongoing excavations aim to fully uncover the Roman camp remnants.
