4,500-Year-Old Egyptian Temple Uncovered

An extraordinary 4,500-year-old Egyptian temple, dedicated to the sun god Ra, has been uncovered by Italian archaeologists near Cairo. The extensive temple complex, spanning over 10,000 square feet, was constructed on the orders of Pharaoh Nyuserre Ini during Egypt's Fifth Dynasty.

Key findings include a roof believed to have been used for astronomical observation and a public calendar of religious events. Excavations, which began in 2024 after earlier attempts were thwarted by high groundwater, have revealed original entrance floors, granite columns, and stone cladding, providing substantial architectural insights.

Further discoveries include fragments of hieroglyphics, pottery, and even pieces from the ancient board game Senet. The temple, once a place of worship, appears to have later been repurposed as a residential area, offering a layered view of its historical significance.
