AI Drug Shows Promise in Reversing Biological Age
7 Sep
Summary
- An AI-designed drug, rentosertib, reduced biological age markers in a trial.
- The drug candidate was developed using artificial intelligence for drug discovery.
- Results indicate potential for slowing the human aging process.

A drug candidate developed with artificial intelligence, known as rentosertib, has demonstrated potential in slowing the aging process. Insilico Medicine's clinical trial indicated that rentosertib reduced biological age markers across six different AI-driven aging clocks.
The drug was designed using AI to target idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a chronic lung disease. The trial, which included patients with this condition, also measured their biological age before and after a 12-week treatment period.
Results published in Nature Biotechnology showed a significant reduction in predicted biological age for participants. Experts acknowledge the promising findings but caution that further trials are needed, particularly in healthy populations, and the drug is still years from approval.
