1,300-Year-Old Complex Unearthed in Israel

An extensive 1,300-year-old industrial and commercial complex has been discovered in Ramat Gan, near Tel Aviv, Israel. Excavations revealed a meticulously planned site from the 7th or 8th century A.D., featuring intersecting streets bordered by shops, warehouses, and industrial facilities with plastered walls and pottery kilns.

This ancient hub, located near a historical route connecting Jaffa, Ramla, and Jerusalem, operated for approximately 150 years. The site yielded a rich collection of artifacts, including bronze tableware, cosmetic implements, iron tools, dozens of coins, and numerous pottery and glass vessel fragments.

Archaeologists suggest the complex was built with regional authorities' knowledge, potentially even initiated or funded by them. The area's fertile land and water sources likely supported its operation. The site was resettled in the 10th century with new residential buildings and production facilities before its final abandonment in the late 11th century.

Officials from the Israel Antiquities Authority highlighted that the findings provide a vivid reflection of the period's culture, trade, and economy. The reasons for the complex's initial abandonment remain unknown at this stage.
