Hope Henderson and her husband welcomed their son, Clay, weighing 9 lbs., 4 oz., and their daughter, Leah, at 9 lbs., 6 oz., on March 3. Combined, the twins tipped the scales at nearly 19 pounds, a weight not seen in Wyoming twin births for at least five years.
Henderson, a home birth midwife, chose an out-of-hospital birth experience for her twins. Despite initial laboring at 32 weeks, the twins were born after 40 weeks. The birth took place at Arrivals Birth Services in Ogden, Utah, with her husband driving for an hour due to a snowstorm. She delivered the babies medication-free in a birthing pool.
Wyoming Department of Health officials noted that twins are not typically routine births. However, Henderson's excellent self-care and preparedness contributed to a successful delivery. The previous largest set of twins born to Wyoming residents in 2024 weighed close to 16 pounds, significantly less than Henderson's newborns.
